Should You Stock Up On Solid Fuel?

We pride ourselves on the quality of our coal and logs here at London Gases. We are thoroughly committed to providing top-notch solid fuels alongside our bottled gases because we want you to be able to choose the home fuel option that suits you best, regardless of what that may be. If you do choose to use coal or logs, you may wonder whether you should stock up and keep large quantities of this fuel in reserve or simply purchase it as you need it. The answer to this question depends on your situation and on how much fuel you use.

Obviously, stocking up on large quantities of coal or logs can be advantageous because it means you don’t have to worry about running out of fuel at an inconvenient moment. It also means that you will always have a reserve of fuel to use in an emergency.

However, stocking up requires a substantial up-front investment. Buying large quantities of fuel in one go can feel expensive. If you have the money to invest, it’s worthwhile. However, if you need to manage your money in the short-term, you may be better off buying smaller quantities of fuel over a longer period.

You should also think about whether you can store large amounts of fuel or not. Logs and coal both need to be kept in cool, dry conditions. The storage space needs to be cool in order to eliminate the risk of a fire breaking out, and it needs to be dry to preserve the fuel’s efficacy. If you have a large space that you can keep cool and dry, you can buy solid fuel in bulk. If not, you should restrict yourself to smaller purchases.

Finally, you should think about the extent to which you use and rely on home fuels. If you use fuels such as logs or coal to heat your water, cook and keep your home warm, it’s probably worth stockpiling large amounts of fuel. After all, you’re highly dependent on home fuel, and running out would be a major problem. However, if you only use home fuels to supplement conventional gas or electricity supplies (such as power from the national grid), you may be better off buying a little fuel whenever you need it instead.

Whether you decide to buy your fuel in bulk or in small quantities, we hope you’ll choose us as your supplier. Our coal and logs are definitely worth investing in!
