Ways to beat the winter blues in January
With the excitement of Christmas over and done with and January on the horizon, make sure you have lots of things to look forward to, which will help keep the winter blues away.
Here are five ways to make January a happy one.
1. Build a fabulous fire
Whether it's a real fire, log burner or multi-fuel stove, there are plenty of ways to stay warm this winter. Nothing can compare to the sight, sound and aroma of a real fire and this is the time of year when it’s most appealing. Remember to stock up on logs or coal so that you’re well prepared for those cold, winter nights. London Gases can cater for all your needs including soft and hardwood logs, kiln dried logs, kindling and firelighters.
Add to the cosy atmosphere by lighting lots of beautifully scented candles. It's incredibly popular with the Danish in helping to create the sense of 'hygge' and it's easy to see why.
2. Plan a holiday
January is the perfect time to plan (or even take) a holiday. Thoughts of a getaway to somewhere warm and sunny will lift your spirits no end! Once you've made your reservation, set a holiday countdown app or write it on your calendar so you'll feel like the countdown has truly started.
3. Exercise more
Exercising produces endorphins that make us naturally feel good so this is an important time of year to get active. Join a gym, find a yoga class or use a fitness app and set your health goals. Exercising reduces the risk of heart disease and many more health conditions and it will help to get rid of those sluggish post-Christmas feelings.
4. Start a new hobby
New year, new hobby! If there's something new you've wanted to try or a language you've wanted to learn, now is the time to make a start. Giving your mind something new to focus on will help to banish those January blues before they even start.
5. Spend time outdoors
Despite the chilly temperatures, it's good to get out into daylight. Find a local country park and take a walk, if there's a sunny but chilly day, you could even take a picnic or a portable BBQ.
